Asbestos Awareness Education

Health implications excluded, asbestos was a top-grade building product made all the popular due to its many advantageous properties. (e.g. strength, fire-resistance, durability, resistance to breakdown).
Unfortunately, as is widely known, asbestos is extremely hazardous to your lungs. Asbestos fibres are microscopic, undetectable to the naked eye, and easily embed in your lung tissue once inhaled. The immune system will then attempt to rid the fibres from the lung tissue, to no avail. As a result, scar tissue develops, and over time, the lungs have less functionality for gas exchange. Ultimately, various aggressive cancers and breathing conditions can result.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will have an understanding of the health implications of asbestos exposure, historically what materials have been know to contain asbestos, as well as when and who you should call to deal with an asbestos concern.

Occupational Health & Safety for the Asbestos Worker
If you are working for an abatement and restoration company, in order to be authorized to complete certain risk levels of work, you must complete the following Government of Alberta approved course: Occupational Health and Safety for the Asbestos Worker.
Upon successful completion of this course and exam, participants are then "certified" for a period of three years to complete all risk levels of asbestos abatement (low, moderate, and high).

Lead Awareness Training
Historically, lead has been used in various paints, glazes, and materials. As with many hazardous materials, over the years, the health implications of lead exposure has been documented, research has been conducted, and legislation has been developed to ensure lead concentrations in modern manufacturing is kept at an identified safe level.
This course will inform participants of the health risks associated with lead exposure, common material sources of lead, established lead concentration manufacturing limits, appropriate risk levels of abatement, appropriate PPE for lead, and common abatement methods and procedures.

Silica Awareness Training
Crystalline silica dust is yet another respiratory health hazard. Found in products like cement, bricks, granite, quartz, and many more, silica when ground to a dust, becomes a major health hazard to your lungs.
Similar to asbestos implications, once inhaled, silica dust settles into the lungs and prompts the development of scar tissue. Over time, this scar tissue weighs the lungs down and impairs their ability to adequately exchange gas. Ultimately, various health conditions can ensue, including lung cancer, silicosis, COPD, and more.
This course will inform participants of the health risks associated with silica dust exposure, common sources of silica, appropriate PPE and procedures for working with silica, and much more.
